This Artist Makes Warrior Figures Out of Ramen Noodles

Lately, people seem to really be into adding photo-realism into their food, usually to a creepy effect. This gelato puppy dog is adorableOpens in a new tab, but it makes it hard to dig your spoon through its neck and decapitate it. These clay macaronsOpens in a new tab, meanwhile, aren’t edible, which is good because the realistic baby faces on them might be a bit much for something you’re supposed to put in your mouth. The latest food-meets-art project thankfully isn’t quite so true to life. Instead of emulating our pets or children, these ramen noodle warriors just look like a lot of fun, and like they could lead a miniature army to victory in a culinary battle… a food fight, if you will (via Spoon & TamagoOpens in a new tab).

These figures are the creation of Tokyo-based graphic designer Taishi Arimura, and they’re an anthropomorphic dining delight. First he creates the bodies with instant noodles, twisting the noodles around until they resemble a humanoid figure. Then he uses the containers they came in to create their warrior armor, and finishes his creations by making sure they’re armed for a fight, whether it’s with chopsticks or a fork. The highly talented Arimura has more art on his TwitterOpens in a new tab and InstagramOpens in a new tab pages (including more ramen warrior photos), and it’s all worth checking out.
