OBI WAN-KENOBI’s Ewan McGregor Uses the Force on Automatic Doors

The Force is serious business. No Jedi would ever use it carelessly… Of course not. But thanks to a recent interview from Entertainment Weekly, we think we’ve identified the most adorable use of the Force ever. And serious or not, we feel good about it. In the interview, Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s Ewan McGregor shed some light on how he enacts being a real-life Jedi. What does he do? Well, McGregor channels Obi-Wan and “uses the Force” to open automatic doors at supermarkets and the like.

Honestly, we need an in-situ video of this, stat. McGregor practically owes it to us at this point. Here’s how he describes his real-life Jedi adventures. “I do it with doors,” McGregor explains and demonstrates his Jedi finger slash move in the video interview. (Cue everyone swooning.) “I like to do that with automatic doors, just for my own amusement. I always do a little Jedi move for the doors.”

Well, obviously, we can understand that impulse. But for poor Ewan McGregor, the experience sometimes becomes just a little blush-worthy. He shares, “I have occasionally been caught doing it. You know, like at the supermarket or something when I’m wheeling my trolley out.” Honestly, that paints a real picture. And again, we must ask for the video of this happening in real-time.

But it’s all in good fun really. McGregor notes, “It’s just always for my own [amusement] because it makes me laugh, but occasionally I’ve been caught doing that, and that’s kind of embarrassing.” You say embarrassing, we say incredibly endearing. And it’s nice, honestly, to think of Obi-Wan Kenobi having a nice time with the Force at the supermarket, amusing himself with small feats of Jedi power. Because it sounds like we won’t get too much other light-hearted Obi-Wan anytime soon.

The upcoming  Obi-Wan Kenobi show catches our titular character at a dark time of his life. Ewan McGregor even shared, “We find Obi-Wan at the beginning of our story rather broken, and faithless, and beaten, somewhat given up.” A far cry from Obi-Wan cheerfully using the Force to open a supermarket door. But silly or serious, we’ll take more Ewan McGregor and Obi-Wan Kenobi however we can get them.

Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi releases on May 27.
