First NOPE Reactions Say ‘Yup’ to Its Puzzling Premise and Superb Cast

Jordan Peele’s Nope is probably one of the most anticipated thriller/horror films of 2022. We know tidbits about its premise (hello UFO), and it certainly packs in star power with Keke Palmer, Daniel Kaluuya, and Steven Yeun. And, with Peele’s track record of Us and Get Out, there will be more than what meets the eye. The first reactions for Nope are out in the world, and it appears that Jordan Peele went for a three-peat.

Not surprisingly, Nope takes viewers on a wild ride with so much to process that they will be thinking about it for weeks to come. In fact, it may take several viewings to truly wrap your head around everything that is happening. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Well, you’ll have to be the judge of that for yourself. Opinions are subjective, after all.

For those who are wondering about the horror factor in this film, there are some reviews just for you! The words “creepy” and comparisons to Spielberg’s Close Encounter of the Third Kind (which we totally called, by the way) pop up in some of the reactions to Nope.

Of course, there are quite a few reactions that simply promise the viewer will have a good time in general. The praise for Keke Palmer and Daniel Kaluuya’s sibling duo is high. Love to see it!

While the praise abounds of Nope in its first reactions, a few critics do have mixed feelings about it. Some of the sentiments range from overall frustration to feeling that the narrative unwinds itself in the latter half.

So there you have it! The reactions to Nope are mostly positive and promise a story with ample puzzles, Spielberg influences, a dash of Jaws terror, and great performances. Nope hits theaters on July 22.
