Even before Stranger Things 5 ended, we knew the story wouldn’t. The Duffer Brothers already had a live-action spinoff series planned, one that only Finn Wolfhard guessed. After the original show concluded, we found out what Wolfhard had figured out. The Dimension X rock that turned young Henry Creel from a boy scout to a monster was the key to the new Stranger Things spinoff series. Now we know when we will start to learn exactly how that happened. Netflix has shared an announcement trailer for Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure. Other Worlds is a new Stranger Things prequel set in 1955 Nevada, the state where Henry discovered that terrible artifact.
A New Stranger Things Prequel Series Has Officially Been Announced
Netflix waited until Stranger Things Day, November 6, the day Will Byers went missing, to make a huge announcement. The Duffer Brothers’ live-action Stranger Things spinoff, officially known as Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure, will arrive on the streamer in 2028. The show comes from both the sibling duo and co-creator Kate Trefry with 21Laps Entertainment producing. Trefry will also serve as showrunner. Despite taking place in Marion, Nevada, it will actually film in New Mexico.
What Will Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure Be About?
The story of this new Stranger Things series is heading back to a time before the prequel play, Stranger Things: The First Shadow. Other Worlds will help us understand how the Dimension X rock that upended Henry Creel’s life ended up in our dimension in the first place. But despite taking place decades earlier, the announcement trailer for the new Stranger Things series still feels very much like something we’d expect from Stranger Things. We see a shot of a bicycle, a government facility, and dark, ominous skies that open up to another world.
Other Worlds Will Feature a New Cast, But We Could See Some Familiar Stranger Things Faces
“We’ve been dreaming of Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure for many years now, and to see it become a reality is surreal and exhilarating,” said Matt and Ross Duffer in a statement. “It’s Stranger Things, but also thrillingly fresh, with a new setting, new heroes and villains, and new … actually, we’re not allowed to say any more. Now, on to casting. In the meantime — watch the skies, nerds!”
While the show will feature a whole new cast, considering its connection to the future Upside Down, we could still see younger versions of old characters, especially Dr. Martin Brenner or Dr. Kay. But whether any familiar figures appear isn’t what we’re excited for. Stranger Things 5 showed us there were other worlds out there. We want to see what kind of stories they have to tell.
