In the second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, we’ve got a new Titan who is giving Godzilla and Kong a run for their money. This year, we’ve been introduced to Titan X, the kaiju that other kaijus fear. In episode one of the season, he emerged from the realm of Axis Mundi when Cate Randa (Anna Sawai) sent a rescue pod to save Lee Shaw (Kurt Russell). Now, it is loose upon the world, and is possibly heading to populated areas to cause some major damage. But our heroes, as they often do, have a plan for that.
In the clip below from Monarch’s third episode of season two, “Secrets,” we see how Hiroshi Randa (Takehiro Hira) has scienced up a new way of finding our big new seafaring Titan friend. It’s a smaller version of an old device, which he has improved upon with his scientific genius. In this scene, he shows Shaw, Rentaro, and his mother, Keiko (Mari Yamamoto), what he’s cooked up.
As Dr. Randa explains, he built this device from Dr. Suzuki’s original designs. It’s smaller, but way more powerful. And as Rentaro reminds us, it’s what he used to wake up Godzilla. Keiko looks shocked that they ever woke up the King of the Monsters. But then she realizes she missed a lot of Titan wackiness over the several decades she lost in Axis Mundi. Lee Shaw wonders how this will work, given they don’t have much time. But these guys have Scooby-Dooed their way out of worse situations… barely.
Is Titan X too big of a threat for Monarch as an organization to deal with? In the season so far, we see how young Lee Shaw (Wyatt Russell) and Keiko first encountered the creature back in 1957. Now, decades later, it’s back and they are well aware of the damage it can do. When it emerged in 2017, it killed Monarch Deputy Director Natalia Verdugo (Mirelly Taylor) with one of its enormous tentacles. This guy makes Godzilla and Kong look like a walk in the park. So we can only hope that Dr. Hiroshi Randa’s little science project works. If not, a coastal city somewhere is going to have a very bad day soon.
