MASS EFFECT TV Series Will Tell a Brand NEW Story

The Mass Effect TV series has been in development with Prime Video since 2021. But happily, it is STILL alive and chugging along. So far, we know that The Chief Of War‘s Doug Jung will take on the role of Mass Effect‘s showrunner; he will be working alongside Fast and Furious 9 writer Daniel Casey. And now, BioWare has furnished us with a big update about the story of the new Mass Effect TV series. Here’s what the company had to say:

The writers room is going strong, and we’ve got a lot figured out about how it fits within the Mass Effect canon, and where it sits in respect to the new game. The show will explore a brand-new story within the universe’s timeline, and will be set after the original trilogy. It won’t be a retread of Commander Shepard’s story – because after all … that’s YOUR story, isn’t it?

We love the tact the Mass Effect TV series is taking. Allowing a series to create its own world and story is almost always better than just a pure note for note adaptation, although both can be good. It seems like Prime Video has picked up this Mass Effect note from Fallout. Setting the Mass Effect TV series in the future of the Mass Effect timeline is also wise because that way, there’s no breaking of the canon set up by the beloved games.

Still, we hope that Jennifer Hale and the rest of the games’ voice actors can be in the mix of the Mass Effect series somehow—they’ve earned it!

Of course, we’re stoked to hear the writers’ room is going strong for the Prime Video Mass Effect series. That means TRUE progress is happening. If there’s a writers’ room, there’s most likely going to be a show. We’ll, cross our fingers.
