Stephen King‘s It arrived in movie theaters and quickly smashed box office records this weekend, and it probably caused a few new cases of coulrophobia. Tim Curry‘s Pennywise the Dancing Clown from the 1990 It miniseries was terrifying enough, but Bill Skarsgård‘s incarnation of the killer clown seems destined to haunt our nightmares for many years to come. Alamo Drafthousefound a way to make It an even more unnerving experience by scheduling all-clown screenings of the film this weekend. If clowns scare you, now might be a good time to turn back.

According to Gothamist, many fans at Alamo Drafthouse’s Brooklyn theater took the screening as a chance to show off their creativity. One fan cosplayed as a David Bowie clown, while another came dressed as Zach Galifianakis‘ Chip Baskets from the comedy series Baskets. For people who didn’t arrive in costume, Alamo Drafthouse had fake noses, wigs, and makeup on hand to turn them into clowns. Some fans made it into the theater without clown costumes, but we’re just going to assume that they were devoured by the clowns who surrounded them.

Alamo Drafthouse also posted a number of photos from the clowns-only screenings on their Instagram account. The red-nosed gathering is definitely an impressive/terrifying event.
