GAME OF THRONES Movie about Aegon the Conqueror From ANDOR Writer in the Works

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms smaller, more intimate story restored viewers enthusiasm in the Realm. Now Warner Bros. Discovery is hoping to cash in on renewed interest in Westeros by going big. Specifically by going to the big screen. A new report says the studio is developing a Game of Thrones movie about Aegon the Conqueror from Andor‘s writer. But Paramount’s own hostile conquest of Hollywood could turn this tale of fire and blood to ash before the King can land in theaters.

Page Six Hollywood‘s Tatiana Siegel reports Warner Bros. Discovery is developing a Game of Thrones movie about Aegon I. He’s the legendary dragonlord who united the Realm and established House Targaryen’s rule in Westeros. This is not the first time the studio has considered bringing the Conqueror’s story to the screen. He has long been considered for a TV spinoff. Only Warner Bros. is now looking to bring him to theaters, something David Benioff and D.B. Weiss wanted to do with Game of Thrones long ago.

This latest attempt to bring Aegon’s story to life is serious enough that a script already exists. Andor writer and House of Cards showrunner Beau Willimon has already turned in a first draft of the Game of Thrones movie. Page Six Hollywood‘s sources say the studio is very excited about what Willimon gave them.

And it might not matter. The pending sale of WBD to Paramount Skydance means no one in Hollywood really knows anything right now. That includes the executives developing this Aegon project. It’s unclear if anyone at Warner Bros. can make this Game of Thrones movie, or any other new film, happen before the merger goes through.

It’s not clear it should, either. Willimon’s resume speaks for itself, and his script might be absolutely tremendous. But Aegon’s story might be too big for the big screen. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and Westeros wasn’t conquered in one, either. Can you tell the tale of Targaryens became kings with fire and blood in just two hours? We don’t know. But if you’d like to learn more about the Targaryens’ history, you can do so across 736 pages in G.R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood or in our digestible rundown.
