“Long live the fighters!” Yes, for sure. You simply have gotta give it up to the fighters. But we’d also like to take a moment to recognize another group that also does important work. Their forte is also a lot less violent and a lot more fun. “Long live the cosplayers!” Especially the very talented and creative one who helped make an opening weekend screening of Dune: Part Two even more memorable event for moviegoers. It’s not just that he showed up at a theater in a full Fremen stillsuit. It’s that this Fremen cosplayer showed up to Dune: Part Two riding a custom-made sandworm.
TikTok user Josh Gammon shared a short video he shot in Tulsa, Oklahoma at an AMC theater during Dune: Part Two‘s premiere weekend. While matinee customers waited in line for refreshments, a masked rider equipped with maker hooks and an amazing Fremen stillsuit arrived atop his very own mobile Shai-Hulud.
If you want to bless the maker of this incredible kinetic cosplay, it’s the work of fellow TikTok user redprintrising. He shared his own videos showing how he turned an otherwise normal opening weekend screening into his own mini Dune-Con.
This must have been incredible to unexpectedly see inside a movie theater. But imagine walking down the street only to watch a Fremen sandrider go gliding by you. Also, imagine if these videos didn’t exist and you had to convince even a single person this really happened. They’d thing you’d been hitting the spice melange a little too hard.
No disrespect to the fighters or anything, but we’d much rather follow a cosplayer who takes an Arrakis sandworm as their date to a screening of Dune: Part Two than the Lisan al Gaib and his vision of a bloody future. Great cosplay is a lot more fun than a holy war.
