Explore Warhammer 40K Mythology With G&S Vlogger Dael Kingsmill

Powered by Geek & Sundry

Some folks may know Dael from her series of mythology vlogs on the Geek & Sundry Vlogs channel, where she’d would explore ancient tales of gods and men. If you don’t know her, here’s a quick rundown: she’s an immensely funny, witty, sharp-tongued commentator who is able to draw the most on-the-nose parallels between mythos and pop culture.

While she’s continued the exploration of classical mythology on her personal YouTube channel, she’s also recently started to explore mythology from the grimdark future of Warhammer 40,000. As a self-described newbie to the 40K lore herself, learning the universe through her interpretation and view is full of delight and Dael-isms which are both edifying and endearing.

For example, she draws parallels to the Emperor’s (“The Big E”) quest to bring the Primarchs into the fold to that of a Pokémon trainer’s quest to catch ’em all, referring to collected genetically-perfected, super-soldier demigods as “Primarch-mon”.

It might be heresy if it all wasn’t so utterly delightful.

While Dael may be new to the lore of Warhammer 40K, but she’s been 40K adjacent all the time I’ve known her, with a brother who has been playing for quite awhile (and who joined her for an enjoyable unboxing of the 8th Edition Warhammer 40K Dark Imperium Starter Set). Hearing her butcher the names of Primarchs is hilarious, and watching her rip through the starter set and try to figure out which big, intimidating dude in the iconic photo of Horus facing down the Emperor of Mankind is actually Horus.

As someone who both loves miniature wargames and Dael (being one of the first to subscribe to her personal channel *pushes hipster glasses up*) seeing them come together is joyous.

Make sure you check out her YouTube channel to keep up with her fantastic projects. Hopefully, it won’t be too long before she’s also building, painting, and playing with minis with the rest of us.

Which Warhammer 40K project is your favorite? Tell us in the comments!
