Some of you might remember that classic ’90s dance song, “Things That Make You Go Hmmmm.” Although the song was allegedly inspired by actor/talk show host Arsenio Hall, the truth is it may as well have been inspired by everyone’s favorite small and green Jedi Master, Yoda. Recently, we’ve learned of a fan and YouTube user named Jason ScanlonOpens in a new tab (via The Laughing SquidOpens in a new tab), who compiled every single time Yoda said “hmmm” in the Star WarsOpens in a new tab saga, starting with The Empire Strikes BackOpens in a new tab and going all the way to The Last Jedi.Opens in a new tab He says it a lot. And here you just thought he was famous for saying sentences backwards.
There is maybe no other character in pop culture who is as fond of pondering things out loud. Unless the video missed some examples, we count that there are some 47 times that Yoda audibly “hmmmed” in the Star Wars films. And mind you, that’s not counting all the times he did it on the animated Clone WarsOpens in a new tab series, or I’m sure we’d be well into the hundreds of “hmmms” by now. And if anyone out there is up to the challenge of making that particular compilation video, well, there are over one hundred episodes of that show. You’ve got your work cut out for you.Although Yoda is not announced for the cast of Episode IXOpens in a new tab, I wouldn’t be shocked if he makes one more appearance in Force Ghost form . And when he does, here’s hoping that Frank OzOpens in a new tab gives us at least one more “hmmmm” to go with him.
