At the time of writing this post, ControlOpens in a new tab has raised almost 10 times its requested amount on KickstarterOpens in a new tab. It’s a 2-4 player strategic combat card game from Keymaster GamesOpens in a new tab, where time-travelers are pitted against each other as they fight to escape a rupture in time.
Pitched as a “gateway game” that newbies can enjoy just as much as every day players, Control features similarities to the classic trading game, Magic: The GatheringOpens in a new tab. The rules are simpler though, closer to one of our current favorites: Love LetterOpens in a new tab. Rounds hit that sweet spot of 5-15 minutes, where each player must use Silver or Bronze Fuel Cells to refuel their time machine, or stop others from refueling theirs first. Whoever is the first to reach a Fuel Cell charge of 21 or more escapes and closes the time rupture while the remaining players are lost outside time. In a 2-3 player game, it’s every man for himself, but in a 4-player game, teams of two can work together to make their escape.
Control sounds like a game that will be great to get your friends warmed up on game night, and also a perfect one to keep in your bag and bust out when you and a buddy have a quick wait or are stuck in line. Hey, you could even take it to work and liven up lunchtime. You can check out their Kickstarter pageOpens in a new tab to see what all the fuss is about.
