Ancient vampires, beware. Shots have been fired. In a recent Nerdist interview with Eric Bogosian and Assad Zaman, Zaman discussed how Armand’s trauma was so rarely recognized throughout his existence, and that before the finale of The Vampire Lestat, we’d only heard Armand briefly elaborate on it when he spoke of his past with his maker Marius. Taking this in, Bogosian paused for a moment to defend his own in-universe maker. In a tone that implied he was sitting in deep judgment of Marius, the Daniel-actor noted that Marius did not say nice things about Armand this season, and was, in his opinion, being “nasty.”
“Marius doesn’t have very nice things to say about you, Assad,” Bogosian noted, after Zaman’s allusion to Armand’s devoted, but pained, recollection of his time with his Maker in Venice. “I mean, he only says one line, but he really gets nasty.”
“Rotten boy.” Zaman agrees. “Yeah. I’m his rotten boy, which is very, very, very different from how Armand describes Marius or how Marius is with him in the books. It’s going to be interesting to explore that relationship as well.”
We can only agree there. And given Bogosian’s disparaging response to Marius’ rudeness about Armand in The Vampire Lestat, we can’t help but wonder how a potential meeting of three generations of this bloodline would go. Daniel is certainly not one to mince words. And already, Bogosian is saying he feels Marius is “nasty.” We agree wholeheartedly. And would very much like for a fledgling vs. maker encounter where Marius gets told what is what.
In earlier interviews, Zaman shared that becoming a vampiric maker made Armand think about his relationship with his own vampiric maker, Marius. He noted, “Yes, absolutely. And I totally thought about that whilst I was there.” Elaborating to say, “I mean, there are parallels here that are, I guess, accentuated a bit more than they are in the books between Daniel and Marius. They’re closer in age, and…I’m not sure how aware Armand is about self-reflecting on himself, seeing that [about Marius and Daniel], but I think he’s seeing something in Daniel that reminds him of Marius in some ways.”
Meanwhile, Bogosian offered, “That’s pretty interesting because the Daniel that you [Armand] met in the ’70s has no accomplishments and is kind of a loser. And the Daniel that you’re dealing with now is a lot closer to Marius in that he actually has done something with his life. Although not through supernatural means, which is what Marius did. Marius built a whole empire on that… A horrible empire of bad things.”
The relationship between Armand and Daniel is currently in a complicated state. Daniel holds a lot of anger for Armand, even as he longs for him. And Armand has fully confessed himself to be in love with Daniel, but is, as ever, evasive. But what happens when Marius, another vampire who has such a strong hold on Armand, re-enters the narrative? We bet Daniel’s anger might change its course. Especially if Armand and Daniel are truly companions as we hear they are in The Vampire Lestat.
What will become of Armand, Daniel, and Marius is a story that will have to wait for a potential season four of The Vampire Lestat, though.
