ELDEN RING: SHADOW OF THE ERDTREE Reveals Stunning Gameplay Trailer, Sets DLC Release Date

Last year, we received an exciting announcement: Elden Ring would receive its first expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree. At the time, almost no details were shared—only a little concept art and a title. But now, Bandai Namaco has revealed a stunning three-minute gameplay trailer that takes us deep into the heart of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. In this trailer, we see a dark world, one full of terrifying monsters, great evil, and many battles. But, there’s a hypnotic sort of beauty that clings to the realm. “Come now,” the trailer teases, “Touch the withered arm and travel to the realm of shadows…” Well, if you insist…

You can watch the full Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree trailer below.

Although Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree doesn’t provide a very clear synopsis, its trailer does mention the Elden Ring character of Miquella. While Miquella has been a background character so far in the world of Elden Ring, it certainly feels like he’ll be the star here. In fact, the opening shot of the Shadow of the Erdtree trailer harkens back to an image of Miquella’s arm dangling from a cacoon in the base game.

What Elden Ring does share alongside its Shadow of the Erdtree trailer is the following cryptic poem. It reads:

The Land of Shadow.

A place obscured by the Erdtree. Where the goddess Marika first set foot.

A land purged in an unsung battle. Set ablaze by Messmer’s flame.

It was to this land that Miquella departed. Divesting himself of his flesh, his strength, his lineage. Of all things Golden.

Divesting one’s self of flesh, strength, and lineage doesn’t sound like too much fun to us. But it certainly paints a picture. It also sounds like the villain of this Elden Ring DLC expansion will be called Messmer.

A further share on Twitter notes of Shadow of the Erdtree, “In the Land of Shadow, Miquella awaits the return of his promised Lord.” We guess we’ll have to wait to learn more about what this adventure entails.
