How do you want to spend your golden years? That’s a question that a lot of Gen Xers and Millennials are thinking about now that most of us are 35+ and really looking forward to a day where we can do what we want all the time. Maybe your idea of a great retirement is living near the beach and seeing the ocean everyday or moving into a nice retirement community where you’re surrounded by activities and your peers. Well, leave it to the Duffer Brothers to take something seemingly serene like a community for seasoned citizens and turn it into a nightmare in the trailer for The Boroughs.
Sam Cooper (Alfred Molina) arrives in the desert of New Mexico to his new home The Boroughs, an idyllic retirement community full of colorful personalities, cocktails, and cul-de-sacs. Things soon become a nightmare when he starts seeing strange things, wondering if he’s losing his grip on reality or not.
Something monstrous is lurking in the shadows and Sam gets together an eclectic group of residents to find out the truth behind this force. If they don’t figure it out in time, their time will surely run out on Earth. It’s like Stranger Things but if they were all in their 70s.
Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Denis O’Hare, Clarke Peters, and Bill Pullman round out the main cast in The Boroughs, which we see in its trailer. The series will bring all eight of its episodes to Netflix on May 21.
