DROPS OF GOD Trailer Promises Surreal, Wine-Filled Manga Adaptation

Phew. After watching this Drops of God trailer, we are at the edge of our seats. We can’t wait to see more from this wine-centric show. The eight-episode Apple TV+ series from Legendary Entertainment promises to be an excellent adaptation of the bestselling Japanese manga series of the same name. It truly does capture the spirit of the manga on the screen. Not to mention, we feel exquisite tension between the leads already. Someone pour us a glass.

You can take a look at the Drops of God trailer below.

Drops of God feels very multilayered just from the trailer. And assisting that is the really cool format of the series. The show was filmed in French, Japanese, and English and is a multilingual drama. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that we’ll visit “the world of gastronomy and fine wines” in Drops of God. We imagine we’ll have to savor every sip and really distill the different notes we find. Not to mention, the beautiful aesthetic of the show already speaks to us. We hope to see a lot of slow-pouring shots of wine, Hannibal-style.

In addition to the trailer, the synopsis for the Drops of God series shares more about the story. It notes:

“Drops of God” is set in the world of gastronomy and fine wines. Frenchman Alexandre Léger, creator of the famous Léger Wine Guide and emblematic figure in oenology, has just passed away at his home in Tokyo at the age of 60. He leaves behind a daughter, Camille (Fleur Geffrier), who lives in Paris and hasn’t seen her father since her parents separated when she was nine years old. When Camille flies to Tokyo and Léger’s will is read, she discovers that her father has left her an extraordinary wine collection – the greatest collection in the world according to the experts.

But, to claim the inheritance, Camille must compete with a brilliant young oenologist, Issei Tomine (Tomohisa Yamashita). Biological daughter versus spiritual son: the duel is about to begin. There are three tests to break the tie, all related to wine tasting. The winner will take ownership of Léger’s empire, the loser will leave empty handed. But how could Camille win such a duel? She knows nothing about wine, and worse: she has never drunk a single drop.

How indeed? We’ll just have to uncork the bottle and find out. Drops of God will premiere on Friday, April 21, 2023, with two episodes followed by one episode weekly every Friday. It streams on Apple TV+.
