Looking back at the last season of Drops of God, what do you think are the most important lessons that Camille and Issei learned throughout their journey?

Fleur Geffrier: Camille learned a lot. In fact, she was totally lost at the beginning of the season and then she found a lot of people around her, love, a sibling, connecting again with her father, even if he’s dead. And so, yeah, a lot happened to her. And I think at the end of the first season, she feels somehow more complete, full.

Tomohisa Yamashita: This story is all about learning about life through wine. Humans, they’re just like a wine. Humans are made up of many things that are intricately intertwined, very complicated. Also, this story reminds us all, that we are the part of nature. More and more things that can now be done digitally, including meeting new people. So it was refreshing for me to explore a variety of wines. It actually stimulates all of my senses, and with Issei, we learn that the most important things aren’t tied up with the biological, or in DNA, or something. There’s another love beyond the biological DNA and all of that.

And so, going into season two of Drops of God now, can you tease kind of the core elements of both your stories going forward?

Fleur Geffrier: Yeah. For Camille, she thinks she’s very settled. At the beginning of the second season, it’s three years later, she’s in love with Thomas and engaged. She works in the Chassangre estate. She invested the money there, but she will be caught by her father’s shadow or ghost, somehow. She thinks it’s all settled. She forgot about it, really. She put everything under the carpet, but then at one point, it surfaces. And I think she forgets herself somehow, and she realizes she looks way more like her father than she thought. And it’s a big shock for her, I think.

Tomohisa Yamashita: I think a theme of season two is forgiveness, especially in the family situation. It’s sometimes the most difficult thing to do in life, but without forgiveness, none of them can be truly happy. So I hope that Issei and Camille find their way and a solution.

The synopsis for Drops of God season two shares that the pair will be hunting for the world’s greatest wine. What do you think that means to each of them?

Fleur Geffrier: Very different things for Issei and Camille. And for Camille, she has to go on this quest because he wants to go, and she doesn’t want him to get hurt somehow, because she thinks this quest will hurt them. So she wants to do it with him, too. She thinks he wants to have her with him on the quest. She doesn’t see the entire picture, though. And so she thinks she’s going to help him. She’s wrong. And yeah, this quest will be a bit, I don’t want to spoil too much, but destructive at the beginning. She’s got this feeling like, “We shouldn’t do that.” I think it’s a disquiet.

Tomohisa Yamashita: For Issei, the wine expands his horizon for sure. But at the same time, maybe, he is going to learn that who shares the bottle with is more important than how special the wine is.

And the pair of you must have tasted many wines while working on Drops of God. Do you have a kind of greatest wine or wine memory that you’ve experienced?

Fleur Geffrier: Oh yeah, totally. I remember in Georgia we shoot a party for four night nights in a row. And at one point, the characters, Issa and Camille, they bring a Chteau d’Yquem Sauternes, which is really great sweet wine. And because we filmed the bottle with the label, we had to put a real bottle. But of course, when we shoot, we don’t drink the wine, otherwise we would be drunk very quickly. So our department, they change the liquid inside, and they put some water with color in it.

But of course, we don’t want to throw away the wine. That is really, really good. So at the end of the day, they asked the crew, “Who wants to taste the wine?” And we tasted it, and that was really something. Everybody was saying, “Oh wow. Oh, what is that?” Yeah, crazy.

Tomohisa Yamashita: And then the wine from the Perrin family estate, where we shot in seasons one and two. César Perrin, he actually brought the special wine from the family, a Serra, which is not on sale. It means they shared their passion with us. So I fell in love with the wine.
