Tennant will star as the voice for Dr. Rufus Weller, a.k.a. Doc, a lead scientist with the Experimental Science Unit (ESU) and the inventor of the gen:LOCK technology. The footage shown at the press tour revealed that Doc doesn’t play by the rules, and he’s willing to do (and forgive) whatever–even a record of felonies and jail time–to get the best possible fighters on his team. Tennant may at times have made a name for himself playing dark characters, but he’s definitely enjoying playing a lighter, more optimistic and goofy character in gen:LOCK.
With Tennant, gen:LOCK–and Rooster Teeth Animation–is aiming to make an even bigger splash than already expected with its high caliber of voice stars. Tennant joins the previously announced Michael B. Jordan as the main character, Julian Chase; Dakota Fanning as expert mech pilot and Chase’s love interest, Miranda Worth; and Kōichi Yamadera (Ghost in the Shell) as Kazu Iida, one of the new recruits transferring from Japan’s military forces to fight alongside Chase in the gen:LOCK program.
Ever since Rooster Teeth was founded in 2003, the award-winning company has continued to break boundaries with its online programming and massive following, and now with Tennant, Jordan, and Fanning, there’s no telling where this new media group will go next. gen:LOCK will premiere in January 2019 on Rooster Teeth, available for iOS, Android, Xbox One, Apple TV, and at RoosterTeeth.com, with memberships starting at $4.99 a month.
