UPDATE, 6/26/2019 – As if the standing cast were not exciting enough already, Netflix’s Dark Crystal has upped the ante with some more grade-A names. Via The Playlist, Dark Crystal is adding sci-fi icon Sigourney Weaver, Game of Thrones‘ Lena Headey and Hannah John-Kamen, the MCU’s Benedict Wong, comedic breakout star Awkwafina, and renowned puppeteer Dave Goelz to the cast. 12/17/2018 – We’ve been super excited for the Dark Crystal prequel ever since it was announced last year, and now we’ve finally been blessed with some incredible casting announcements via TVLine. The voice cast is filled with some mighty big names, including Mark Hamill, Andy Sandberg, and Simon Pegg. The news also came with our first look at the new Gelfling at the center of the new show, who will be played by Kingsman’s Taron Egerton, Game of Thrones‘ Nathalie Emmanuel, and The Witch star Anya Taylor-Joy.
[/nerdist_section]According to TVLine, the new series will take place many years before the film and will focus on “three Gelfling discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power, they set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world.†It’s an unbelievably packed announcement with other the other stars who were announced spanning the universe of TV and film with the other Gelfling being voiced by Helena Bonham-Carter, Harris Dickinson, Eddie Izzard, Theo James, Toby Jones, Shazad Latif, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong, and Alicia Vikander. Sandberg and Hamill will be leading the Skeksis & Mystics, and will be joined by Harvey Fierstein, Ralph Ineson, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, and, once again, Simon Pegg.The puppets look gorgeous and immediately invoke the magic of Jim Henson’s classic movie and it’s clear that with a cast as incredible as this one, the stars are just as excited for the new vision of Dark Crystal as we are.
