Today in everything old is new again, two classic Choose Your Own Adventure books can now be explored with just your voice and ears thanks to Audible and the Amazon Echo! Journey Under the Sea and The Abominable Snowman, both originally written by R.A. Montgomery, can be kicked off with the uttering of the simple phrase, “Alexa, open Choose Your Own Adventure.”
You’re given the two choices of classic adventures, and then the story begins. Suspenseful music, perfectly timed sound effects, and soothing, clear narration turn the books of your childhood into a completely new and immersive experience as Alexa takes you through the story and you direct her on which choices to make.
There’s no holding one finger to save your place in the pages in case you make the wrong choice, though! Alexa will give you the chance to go back and explore the other options, making sure the story doesn’t stop after just a few minutes. She’ll also let you know how much of the story you uncovered and the number of endings you’ve completed, so the game keeps going as you try to find all of the not-so-happily-ever-afters. (To make matters even more enjoyable, the “womp womp” music when you get a bummer ending is rather amusing.)

Alexa will also remember where you are in the story in case you have to stop and take a break from the adventure.
Choose Your Own Adventure is now available on all Echo devices with more adventures to come. If you don’t have an Echo, you can even use the free Alexa app for Android or iOS to play. Will you choose to go on an adventure?
