Initially, when we saw that Chicken Run 2 would be called Dawn of the Nugget, we kind of thought nugget referred to Ginger and Rocky’s new bundle of joy, Molly. But no, it turns out Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget actually makes reference to the fictional advent of the chicken nugget. Uh oh… That’s definitely a chicken’s worst nightmare. But as they say, you either live free-range or die frying. That is kind of a dark thing to say if you ask us. But let’s take a look at the full official trailer for Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget.
All the charm of Chicken Run returns in this sequel movie. And we especially love the stop-motion animation work done by Aardman. Even just from Dawn of the Nuggets‘ trailer, we can already see we’re in for a visual treat. It seems like this will be a hilarious sequel that brings out what we love most about the original, a little absurdity, a little darkness. After all, chickens, they’re just like us. They want to grow up, they want to see the world, and they sometimes end up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Last cinematic outing, our favorite Chicken Run poultry were trying to break out of a farm, and this time, they’re trying to break into one. But luckily, that makes them the best chickens possible to be on the case in Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget.
This Dawn of the Nugget trailer also gives us our best idea yet about the story Chicken Run 2 will tell. Ginger and Rocky are living an idyllic life, but their freshly hatched daughter just wants to get out and see the world. Unfortunately, the world isn’t kind to chickens, and she ends up in a creepy Stepford wives-style farm/industrial complex run by the dastardly Mrs. Tweedy. Now it’s up to her parents and their assortment of animal friends to save her. (And all of the other chickens trapped in the nefarious chicken trap, we imagine.) Chickens are about to run really hard. We can feel it.
The logline for Chicken Run 2 shares, “For Ginger and the flock, all is at stake when the dangers of the human world come home to roost; they’ll stop at nothing even if it means putting their own hard-won freedom at risk to save chicken-kind. This time, they’re breaking in!” The movie stars Thandiwe Newton (Ginger), Zachary Levi (Rocky), Bella Ramsey (Molly), Imelda Staunton (Bunty), and more.
Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget will begin streaming on Netflix on December 15.
