With all the late night hosts pivoting to at home versions of their shows, a whole new type of interview has been born. This new version showcases our favorite celebrities calling in from their homes. They’re often in casual clothes, maybe pajamas, just being chill. Host Stephen Colbert first adopted this casual interview style for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. This interview style is how we learned Colbert auditioned for Screech from Saved by the Bell. Yep.
Since Colbert launched his at-home show, he’s had an array of celebrity guests stop by. His most recent guest is in a league all her own: Cate Blanchett. The actor appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday. She donned a very chic black silk pajama set with cool pink glasses, and then Colbert went and changed into his own pajamas to match.
As you may know, Colbert is a huge Lord of the Rings fan. Since Blanchett played Galadriel in Peter Jackson’s epic trilogy, they had a lot to talk about. When the topic of Blanchett’s elf ears from the set came up, he was… all ears.
Now, while Blanchett couldn’t find her elf ears, she did find Tauriel’s fighting blades from The Hobbit trilogy. Also, Blanchett said her kids have hobbit feet lying around somewhere, and my heart melted. And then Blanchett moved on to another awesome prop: Thor’s hammer! Blanchett, who played Hela in Thor: Ragnarok, joked that it’s why the Thor film is currently shut down. She stole Mjölnir.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has been successfull during this quarantine time. He, along with other late night hosts such as Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel, will host the Global Citizen One World: Together at Home event Saturday, April 18.
