BBC Studios Boss Is Confident About DOCTOR WHO’s Future

The future of Doctor Who feels very nebulous right now. BBC Studios and Disney+ ended their partnership after two seasons of the long running sci-fi series on the streaming service. Ncuti Gatwa and Varada Sethu have exited their roles as the Fifteenth Doctor and Belinda Chandra, respectively. And the last we saw in the series, the Doctor regenerated to a form that looks like Rose Tyler. We know that there’s a 2026 Christmas special coming but it is not clear who will be the next Doctor. Still, CEO and Chief Creative Officer of BBC Studios Global Content Zai Bennett told Deadline that he’s confident about Doctor Who’s future.

Bennett didn’t want to get into the specifics of the money that the series recently lost and how the company will recoup that. “We’re a big important part of Doctor Who and are all motivated to make sure Doctor Who has a long and flourishing life,” he said. “We’ve got the Christmas special coming. After that, it’s time for us all to work on it.”

So that sounds like there will be plans for lots more the show in the future. Who will be the showrunner? What direction will the show go next? What’s the deal with Billie Piper’s face popping up? We hope to get those answers soon. But at least the adventures will continue this year and beyond.
