Apple TV is the latest streamer to once again hit subscribers with a price hike. According to Deadline, the monthly and yearly subscription prices will both go up starting August 28. Monthly subscribers will now pay $14.99, which is a $2 a month increase from $12.99. The annual subscription for Apple TV is now $119, up from $99. This is just one year after Apple TV drove its monthly price up from $9.99 to $12.99.
The success of Widow’s Bay and the return of fan-favorite Ted Lasso probably brought a lot of new subscribers into the fold. So, of course, a company is going to capitalize on that by driving the prices up. Existing subscribers will get a month’s notice before the Apple TV price hike takes place.
Nerdist’s Take: We Don’t Like Price Hikes At All, But At Least Apple TV Has Quality Content
In a world where everything is getting more expensive by the day, yet people are not making significantly more money, no one wants to pay more for things. But unfortunately those are things that are out of our control. And, at least Apple TV can justify its price hike because the streamer does have quality original content. That’s more than what we can say for some other streamers who are constantly rising prices but are declining in their content quality.
Widow’s Bay is one of the best TV shows of 2026, and Ted Lasso continues to be a delight. And, with offerings like Cape Fear, Severance, Silo, and Sugar, a couple more dollars a month doesn’t feel quite as terrible to pay. We will begrudgingly give you the money, Apple TV.
