APEX Trailer Forces Charlize Theron to Play THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME

There have been so many adaptations of Richard Connell’s classic 1924 short story “The Most Dangerous Game” there’s a Wikipedia page just for them. And it doesn’t even include all of the stories clearly influenced by it. For more than one hundred years filmmakers have found new ways to tell his story about someone finding themselves hunted. Now Netflix is getting in on the deadly game of human cat-and-mouse. The new trailer for Apex forces Charlize Theron to flee for her life in Australia from Taron Egerton.

How many times has “The Most Dangerous Game” been brought to life? So many that this isn’t even the first one called Apex. There was a 2021 movie with the same name and general premise starring Bruce Willis and Neal McDonough. Rather than a cop agreeing to become a human target to earn his freedom, this new Apex from director Baltasar Kormákur (Beast) has a far more terrifying premise. It will see a grieving woman forced to fight for her life by a sociopath. Here’s the film’s official synopsis from Netflix:

Testing her limits in the remote and unforgiving Australian wilderness, Sasha suddenly finds herself not only up against the elements, but also facing off against a ruthless and lethal predator.

The film comes from writer Jeremy Robbins (The Purge TV series). It also stars Eric Bana. Unfortunately, it also features that weird Netflix sheen despite the fact they shot on location. “I couldn’t be more excited,” Kormákur (Everest, Adrift) told Tudum. “Working in the rugged, beautiful terrains of Australia with three of the world’s most talented, dedicated actors in Charlize Theron, Taron Egerton, and Eric Bana is such a joy — even as I put them through the [ringer] in this unique survivor story.”

He also, like so many directors before him, also put them through the most dangerous game. And we’ll see how this version plays out when Apex debuts at Netflix on April 24.
