In the Alien movies, Ellen Ripley was forced to leave her daughter behind when she went on the voyage that brought her face-to-face with a Xenomorph for the first time. While Amanda Ripley never reunited with her mother, she emerged as a heroine in her own right in the Alien: Isolation video game. Next year, Dark Horse Comics is publishing a sequel to Alien: Isolation that will bring Amanda back to the forefront as she faces the Xenomorphs once again. And this time, Amanda has backup.
Ahead of New York Comic Con, Dark Horse Comics has announced that Brian Wood and artist Robert Carey will be the creative team of a four issue miniseries called Aliens: Resistance. The miniseries also acts as a sequel to Aliens: Defiance, which was also written by Wood. Defiance's heroine, Zula Hendricks, is going to share the spotlight with the younger Ripley.
But what will bring the two women together? According to Dark Horse, Zula will recruit Amanda to help her expose "a sinister bio-weapons program" and "lead a resistance against an upgraded arsenal designed to keep the darkest atrocities secret." The Weyland-Yutani Corporation is likely the keeper of those secrets, and Amanda still has a grudge against them for the disappearance of her mother.
Aliens: Resistance #1 will be released on Wednesday, January 23, 2019.
