Watch the Trailer for A24’s HERETIC Starring Hugh Grant

A new trailer for A24’s new horror flick dropped today, showcasing a menacing Mr. Reed, played by Hugh Grant, as he creates an inescapable game for the two young protagonists. A Quiet Place writers Scott Beck and Bryan Woods write and direct the new film Heretic. Watch the tense, action-packed trailer below.

Heretic centers around two young Mormon missionaries, Sister Paxton and Sister Barnes, played by Chloe East and Sophie Thatcher, respectively. The girls knock on Mr. Reed’s door, who is a lot more dangerous than meets the eye. As their conversation on theology goes awry, the missionaries do the one thing they shouldn’t: ask to leave. Once inside his home, both girls must prove their faith and survive the sinister game of cat-and-mouse they have gotten themselves into.

The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September with a runtime of 110 minutes. Robyn Citizen, Director of Programming & Platform Lead at TIFF shares:

Half the fun of Heretic is waiting to see where it leads you next. Beck and Woods take the familiar and turn it on its head, while their characters ask serious questions about the role of faith and piety in a world rendered incomprehensible by chaos and violence. It’s a chilling, provocative thrill ride, and it showcases Grant’s immense talents.

Heretic’s marketing recently made waves on social media for digital ads replicating missing person posters in the Salt Lake City airport during a large Mormon convention, a clever nod to the film’s plot.

Grants stars as the film’s villain, an unexpected role for the British actor who is famous for his performances in romantic comedies. East is most known for her role as Monica Sherwood in Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans. Co-star Thatcher previously played a young Natalie Scatorccio in Showtime’s breakout hit Yellowjackets.

You can catch Heretic in theatres nationwide on November 8.
