Danes in the kitchen. It’s a thing. Just ask Mads Mikkelsen. Danes in the kitchen embroiled in a romantic love story that looks a little twisted. That also is a thing. Just ask Mads Mikkelsen. But now, you can also ask Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. The Danish actor has traded swords for knives in his upcoming film, A Taste of Hunger.
Honestly, we love this title. Because delving into the culinary world seems to require a good handle on wordplay. It’s all about the mouth after all. Hunger could be literal here. But we feel more like this hunger cuts deeper and more primally.
Just look at the movie’s poster. Katrine Greis-Rosenthal and Coster-Waldau have become one with the food. We aren’t saying this is basically what Hannibal’s hoped-for season four poster would like… But we also aren’t saying it’s not.
The official description for A Taste of Hunger shares:
A power couple within the Danish gourmet scene run the popular restaurant Malus in Copenhagen. The couple is willing to sacrifice everything to achieve their dream — getting the coveted Michelin star.
Michelin stars are competitive, but how far will this couple go to get one? Hopefully, they’ll stop short of slicing into one another. (At least, literally.)
Even from the preview, we can already tell that this movie has it all. Psychological drama, excellent acting, and, most importantly, food porn. In a movie about a restaurant, it feels critical the food gets a starring role. And this trailer seems to promise it absolutely will. Coster-Waldau (we assume) chopping that tentacle? Absolutely divine. We’d better make a mental note to get the snacks ready for watching this one.
For the hungry, A Taste of Hunger arrives in theaters and on-demand on January 28. We’ll make sure to get our knives sharpened and our napkins out for the meal.
