It’s happening. Your favorite web-slinger is heading back into the MCU. Okay, we all knew it was probably going to happen, but it’s always nice to hear some confirmation. On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Tom Holland did not swing around the issue. Instead, in a rare move for Marvel Studios, the actor gave specific confirmation of the movie. Yes, Tom Holland reveals Spider-Man 4 is happening, and filming will begin in 2025.
Jimmy Fallon set the scene for the reveal, noting to Tom Holland that “there is some chatter Spider-Man 4 is happening and you’ll be back as Spider-Man… Can we confirm this tonight?” In response, here’s what Holland had to say about the upcoming Spidey movie. “It’s happening!” Well, that’s pretty straightforward. In the past, Holland has been known for spilling the MCU beans and accidentally spoiling things. But we imagine he had specific approval this time.
In addition to this official confirmation of the movie, Holland additionally shared when we could expect work on Spider-Man 4 to begin. “Next summer we start filming. Everything’s good to go. Super exciting. I can’t wait!” So that’s a summer 2025 filming start for Spider-Man 4. We bet we won’t hear too much more about the movie before then, but it’s kind of amazing we heard these pieces of information at all.
As to what Spider-Man 4 will entail. Well, we don’t know that yet. When we last left Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, it wasn’t in a great place. At the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the MCU Peter Parker had to literally erase himself from the minds of everyone he had ever known and loved. And so, MJ, his girlfriend, and Ned, his best friend, and literally the whole universe, forgot who he was. It was a new low for the MCU’s especially bright-eyed and bushy-tailed version of the hero. But hey, with great power, you know?
Given that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker will be starting from scratch in Spider-Man 4, it could be the perfect time to introduce in the MCU’s live-action Miles Morales. In fact, Holland recently voiced that he would love to see Miles’ introduction happen through the vehicle of his Spider-Man. And we agree it would be amazing. As one of the OGs of the MCU, it does feel like Holland will soon need to do a bit of torch handing, or web-slinger handing, as it were. And who better to continue the legacy than a live-action Miles.
In the meanwhile, we’ll keep our ears open for more Spider-Man 4 news. Just because Tom Holland stayed on script this time doesn’t mean he won’t accidentally let slip something exciting in the future.
