Prime Video Now Allows Apple TV+ as Add-On

As subscription bundling gets more frequent, another has joined the conversation. Tech companies Apple and Amazon’s streaming services have partnered to have Apple TV+ as a subscription add-on to Amazon Prime Video for $9.99, starting later this month.

The subscription add-on’s price is the same as Apple TV’s regular price for using their service as a standalone product. However, the service is not alone in opting to be on the platform as an add-on. Amazon Prime Video currently offers over 100 different subscription add-ons, such as Sony-owned anime streaming service Crunchyroll, Art-house film streamer Mubi, and documentary programming service Curiosity Stream.

“Prime Video is a first-stop entertainment destination offering a wide selection of premium programming. As we continue to expand our offering and make it easy for customers to personalize their streaming experience directly in one app, we are proud to welcome Apple TV+ and its popular and critically acclaimed shows, films and events to Prime Video,” Mike Hopkins, SVP and Head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, said while announcing the deal.

Having AppleTV+ join Amazon Prime as an add-on service at the same price as the service on its own is part of Amazon’s larger strategy. Prime Video is consolidating as many streaming services as possible on its platform so customers have all their services in one place and on one bill.

“We want to make Apple TV+ and its award-winning library of series and films from the world’s greatest storytellers available to as many viewers as possible,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s SVP of services, in a statement. “We’re thrilled that Prime Video will now offer Apple TV+, giving viewers an incredible breadth of viewing options.”

Amazon will take a certain amount of the subscription revenue from Apple TV+, as it does for all additional services offered on Prime Video, but they do not disclose the terms or how much.
