A MINECRAFT MOVIE Clip Reveals Live-Action Crafting Table and Cubic Swords

The first trailer for A Minecraft Movie was absolutely wacky, but it seemed like a lot of fun. Now we have our first full clip from the live-action Minecraft movie, along with some behind-the-scenes looks and in-depth discussions about it from its creators. One of the most important parts of Minecraft, is, of course, its crafting table, which is necessary for crafting most items in the game. But what does a live-action Minecraft crafting table look like? It was an important question for the movie to answer. And in this first clip from A Minecraft Movie, we get a good look at how crafting will work in live-action, as Jack Black’s Steve teaches Jason Momoa’s Garrett and Sebastian Eugene Hansen’s Henry how to craft in the Overworld.

You can check the live-action Minecraft crafting table and more below. The A Minecraft Movie clip itself begins at the 4:51 timestamp.

Mojang’s creative director of entertainment Torfi Frans Olafsson and A Minecraft Movie director Jared Hess note that they really love the thwack of the live-action crafting table in this clip. And we have to admit it’s pretty cool. Seeing Minecraft‘s cubic swords come to life is pretty nifty too. Olafsson and Hess bandy about familiar terms when speaking of A Minecraft Movie as well. Newbs, modders, and vanilla games will all feature heavily in what’s involved. And, importantly this is A Minecraft Movie not The Minecraft Movie. As with any Minecraft adventure, what the characters bring into their crafting will heavily influence the direction of this journey. In the case of Jason Momoa’s character in this A Minecraft Movie clip, we guess that’s buckets.

It’s also really starting to sound like Jack Black’s Steve could be the anchor point to many different A Minecraft Movie iterations to come. But we’ll see how it goes. For now, we’ll enjoy getting to see the real-life version of Minecraft‘s cubic world in this film. It looks like much of it is was actually built with practical cubes. And we always love to see that.

To help you understand more about the clip above, A Minecraft Movie‘s synopsis is as follows:

Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn’t just help you craft, it’s essential to one’s survival!  Four misfits—Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Hansen), Natalie (Myers) and Dawn (Brooks)—find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination.  To get back home, they’ll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like Piglins and Zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Black).  Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative…the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world.

The live-action Minecraft film releases on April 4, 2025.
