Jon Watts Offers SPIDER-MAN 4’s Director Some Solid Practical Advice

Director Jon Watts, who is responsible for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movies, has a bit of practical advice for his successor. While there are a million nuggets of wisdom that we’d imagine he could share with someone, we didn’t expect this. Jon Watts says the director of Spider-Man 4 should not use practical wires for web-slinging purposes.

Watts spoke further about this tidbit with Collider, saying “It doesn’t look good when someone is just swinging on a rope. You think you’re gonna go in there, you’re like, ‘We’re gonna do it all practical. We’re gonna get a stuntman. We’re gonna be swinging around.’ It’s boring. It looks dumb.”

Well, that totally makes sense. Right now, Sony Pictures is still looking for a Spider-Man 4 director, with strong rumors that Justin Lin could get the role as Jon Watts’ successor. If he can direct F9 and make a car swing on a rope look good (even though it makes no logical sense), then surely he can handle Spidey moving through the NYC streets. But we will see what happens as Spider-Man 4 comes into focus.
