15 Years Later, Kevin Feige and Jon Favreau Reflect on IRON MAN

It’s not often that a movie comes around and kickstarts decades of blockbuster hits and a whole cinematic universe. But Iron Man is that rare movie; one that we can point to and say, wow, that really started it all. Now, on the 15th anniversary of Iron Man‘s release, there’s much to look back on. And who better to walk us through the origins, creation, and legacy of the MCU’s first true film than Marvel Studios President and Producer Kevin Feige and Executive Producer/Director Jon Favreau? Feige and Favreau recently sat down for a twenty-minute chat that’s all about 2008’s Iron Man. 20 minutes might seem long for a video, but it’s not nearly enough to capture the true impact of the movie.

Take a look at the retrospective below:

In addition to pure conversation, behind-the-scenes clips and other fun Easter eggs are interspersed throughout this 15th-anniversary Iron Man video. Feige and Favreau touch on many fascinating topics in this video. They include talk of how Robert Downey Jr. initially auditioned for the Fantastic Four role of Doctor Doom, the inception of the after-the-credits scene, and how Ryan Coogler figured into the release of Iron Man.

It’s always amazing to think that, at its inception, Feige and Favreau were taking a huge gamble on this movie and the idea of the MCU. On its 15th anniversary, we can definitely say, though, that Iron Man was worth the risk. We can’t wait to tune back in for the 40-minute, 30-year retrospective. Hopefully, we can get Robert Downey Jr. to join Feige and Favreau for that MCU lookback.
