Carnival Row takes place in a Victorian era fantasy world where people live alongside the Fae. But season one featured plenty of timely political commentary. Now the show’s second and final season looks even more relevant to our own lives. A new trailer reveals segregation and walls have only made things worse between the two factions. Because before there’s any hope at peace there will be much bloodshed.
Season one of Carnival Row was at times brutal and heartbreaking. However, this trailer for its sophomore outing looks ready to more than double down on those aspects. Political intrigue is just a precursor to the atrocities the Fae will experience. But that’s not all fans have to look forward to. There’s also a murder mystery that will have the police turning to Inspector Philostrate for help. Here’s the official synopsis from Prime Video:
In a fantasy world where humans and creatures clash, Season Two of Carnival Row picks up with former inspector Rycroft Philostrate aka Philo (Orlando Bloom) investigating a series of gruesome murders stoking social tension. Vignette Stonemoss (Cara Delevingne) and the Black Raven plot payback for the unjust oppression inflicted by The Burgue’s human leaders, Jonah Breakspear (Arty Froushan) and Sophie Longerbane (Caroline Ford). Tourmaline Larou (Karla Crome) inherits supernatural powers that threaten her fate and the future of The Row. And, after escaping The Burgue and her vengeful brother Ezra (Andrew Gower), Imogen Spurnrose (Tamzin Merchant) and her partner Agreus Astrayon (David Gyasi) encounter a radical new society which upends their plans. With humans and fae folk divided and freedom on the line, each hero will face impossible dilemmas and soul-defining tests in the epic conclusion of Carnival Row.
That’s a whole lot to wrap up in ten episodes. Which is exactly why we expect this season to be even better—and more timely—than the first.
Carnival Row begins its final ten-episode season with two installments at Prime Video on February 17. Two new episodes will follow every week until the series’ finale.
