If you’re a fan of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, you’re thriving. Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen are doing press for the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series, along with Moses Ingram. The show set 10 years after the events of the Revenge of the Sith brings the pair’s Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader together once again. And we have nothing but joyous feelings at seeing McGregor and Christensen smiling about the prequels. In a recent interview, McGregor opened up about how prequel trilogy fans have changed his relationship with Star Wars.
The Star Wars prequels, released between 1999 and 2005, didn’t get much love from critics or adult fans. Many derided them, sometimes cruelly. We can’t blame any actors from those movies for keeping Star Wars at arm’s length after the harsh criticism. But over the years, the kids who adored the prequels have grown up. They’ve expressed their passion for the movies and their appreciation for those who made them. McGregor spells it out in the below video shared by Twitter user keldorjedii.
McGregor said to a reporter:
I guess you were a kid when our films came out, so we sort of made them for you. And it was an odd experience to make those movies… When you step into this world, it’s a big deal. It’s scary. And then those films were critically not liked very much… But what we didn’t hear at the time was people your age, your generation. We meet those people now who really love our films, but it’s taken us 15 years to hear that and it’s so nice… it’s changed my outlook. My relationship with Star Wars is different because of that.
We’re happy this duo gets to promote a Star Wars series and feel the love from the fandom.
Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres on Disney+ with the first two episodes on May 27, 2022. Subsequent episodes will air weekly on Wednesdays.
