It’s not funny to learn someone in your building died. And it’s definitely not entertaining to hear someone murdered them. But only in real life. Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez showed that exact situation makes for great fodder—and a great podcast—in the first season of Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building. How, though, will the fake true-crime story keep the momentum going when you can only kill off so many neighbors without the situation getting too absurd? We’ll find out soon in Only Murders in the Building season two.
In the season one finale, the trio of true crime podcast hosts were on the hook for killing the president of their building’s co-op board. And the official season two teaser sees the beloved true crime podcast hosts on a mission to clear their name… with a season two of their now-infamous podcast.
The unlikeliest trio of (still) in-over-their-head podcasters is back. And after their season one discovery and a few… ahem… hiccups, this time everyone knows who they are and what they’re up to. They’re not supposed to be on the case, though. The authorities of New York City have told them solving crimes is best left to actual professionals. Or at least better amateur sleuths. Preferably ones who aren’t trying to get famous off of death.
The Only Murders in the Building season two teaser also introduces a couple of newcomers to the show, including Cara Delevingne and Amy Schumer. Plus, the teaser also gives us glimpses of Nathan Lane and Amy Ryan, who are each reprising their season one roles. And, as always, its three original stars are just as irresponsible as ever.
The full teaser is an expanded look at the season first shown in a 30-second spot announcing season two’s release date.
After a great season one, Only Murders in the Building will be looking to stay fresh without retreading the same ground it already covered. The group’s notoriety will be a nice wrinkle.
But ultimately it will be a series of new problems that plague the three. According to Hulu, season two will see Charles, Oliver, and Mabel “race to unmask” who killed Arconia board president Bunny Folger. It won’t be easy, though. For a whole lot of reasons that are bad for them but great for viewers. They’ll deal with multiple “complications.” The group “is publicly implicated in Bunny’s homicide.” They themselves then become the “subjects of a competing podcast.” And they will “have to deal with a bunch of New York neighbors who all think they committed murder.”
All of that sounds awful, but only in real life. We can’t wait to enjoy all these misadventures when Only Murders in the Building returns to Hulu on June 28.
