Clever Warbling Helps Guitar Hero Player Overcomes Copyright Issues

There’s nothing like having a triumphant moment that you want to share with the world, only for a little thing like copyright to get in the way. But, as a user named GuitarHeroFailure has demonstrated, there can be a creative solution.

The devoted music game fan, whose channel features videos from various music/rhythm games like Guitar Hero and others, recently uploaded a clip from Guitar Hero Smash Hits, where he managed to perform Ozzy Osbourne’s “Bark At the Moon” with full completion. However, he claims that shortly after uploading it, YouTube removed it due to copyright.

Rather than fight them on it, he found a way around the problem–by removing the audio entirely and re-recording it with his mouth. “This is a cool song but it was taken down by YouTube, so I fixed the audio,” he explains in the video’s description.

It’s basically just him singing along to the rhythm of the game, with a few “duh-duh-duhs” and “bwaaaaaaaangs” thrown in for good measure. You can still tell that it’s “Bark At the Moon,” but obviously in a scat-like fashion.

The video has since gone viral, with over two million views on YouTube, which has left GuitarHeroFailure beaming as a result. “Thank you everyone for blowing up my computer and phone with awesome notifications,” he said in a comment. “I have to sleep now and I hope by the time I wake up, [it’s] even more. So thanks to everyone who watched, liked and subscribed[. It] was one of the best days of my life.”

No word yet if GuitarHeroFailure will continue the trend, but it’d be interesting to get his scat take on other songs in the Guitar Hero series. You have to wonder how he’d fare with Dragonforce’s “Through the Fire and Flames”…
