We know how much it hurts to step on a LEGO with your bare foot. It’s actually more painful than stepping on hot coals or glass. That’s what makes the company’s newest collectible perfectly ironic. LEGO has announced a buildable set that lets you make your very own Adidas sneaker. And you can design it the way you want.
LEGO
LEGO and Adidas have once again joined forces for a seemingly unlikely partnership. The two brands have previously united for a children’s line of clothes and a sneaker inspired by LEGO’s aesthetic. Now the proverbial shoe is on the other foot, with the announcement of the LEGO Adidas Originals Superstar set. (Which we first heard about at CNN.) It lets you turn those iconic plastic bricks into a replica of Adidas’s popular basketball shoe.
The 731-piece set features a traditional shell toe shape on a white sneaker with black trim. You can decide if you want it to be for a right or left foot. (Or you can buy two and make a pair.) The LEGO sneaker also has holes so you can lace it up, along with tags and graphics for authenticity. As well as a stand to display it. And to really make it feel real, the whole thing comes in a sneaker box.

But the real fun will come in giving your sneaker personal touches. You can add colors to make it more vibrant. Or include extra touches, including from other LEGO sets, to create unique works of art. To show off the possibilities, LEGO asked six designers to fashion their own. It should inspire fans to get wild with their brick shoes too.
The LEGO Adidas Originals Superstar set ($79.99) kicks into gear July 1. Just make sure you’re wearing real shoes when you’re building yours. It will be extra ironic if you step on piece from this set, but that doesn’t mean it will hurt any less.
