SUPERNATURAL Stars Say Goodbye on Final Day of Filming

The Winchesters’ long road is coming to an end. The CW’s Supernatural will say goodbye after 15 seasons with the drama’s final seven episodes airing this fall. The crew still had two more episodes to film after the COVID-19 pandemic halted production for months. But now they have completed the journey. Yesterday, September 10, marked the final day of filming for Supernatural. Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki have played Dean and Sam Winchester, respectively, for a long time. Saying goodbye can’t be easy, but both of the actors shared gratitude for their journey (via Deadline).

For the record: we’re crying way more than Dean’s single man tear over this.

But before we look at the last day of filming, let’s go back to the early days of Supernatural. Series creator Eric Kripke shared a moment from the first scene they shot back in the day. Look how youthful the Winchesters look. You can see so much of their brotherly relationship in this gif too. Ackles and Padalecki only evolved that over the following seasons.

Padalecki posted a note as he headed to the last day of filming. He said, “Obviously, my head is spinning and my emotions are stratospheric, but there’s still a bit of time left on the clock.”

Ackles likewise reflected on the end of a journey. He commented how it’s changes his life forever. The actor posted images from their final days of filming. Note that the shots are all with Dean Winchester’s Impala, a.k.a. Baby—the very one Ackles is taking home with him now that filming is complete.

Fifteen years is a long time for a TV series to run. I’m thankful we got so much time watching the Winchesters and Castiel and everyone else save people and go up against evil. It’s been a gift. But every path ends. While I’m emotional and weepy because of how this show has been interwoven with my life for so long, I’m ready for the end. Or as ready as I can be. And seeing these warm posts from the Winchesters certainly helps.

Supernatural‘s final episodes kick off on The CW beginning on October 8.
