Welcome to our Best Things Streaming column. Each month we highlight the best of what’s hitting your favorite streaming channel. This August Netflix is offering some classic monster-mash action, the follow up to one of their biggest recent animated acquisitions, new seasons of fan fave shows, and some throwback ’80s movie goodness. No matter what you’re craving you’ll likely find something to satisfy in this month’s roster.
08/01: The Jurassic Park Trilogy
The original Jurassic Park movie is one of the best blockbusters to ever grace our screens. Netflix is blessing us with that classic, as well as its two very strong sequels. If you want some good comfort viewing this August, these three dino-disaster flicks will nourish you. Also though it may be the most maligned we stand by the fact that Jurassic Park III is really fun.
8/14: The Legend of Korra
After Avatar: The Last Airbender made a big impact on Netflix in May, it’s unsurprising that the streamer has acquired the rights to the show’s sequel series. The Legend of Korra is an action packed animated adventure about the titular iteration of the Avatar. It also features some delightful new characters and a queer ship that comics later made canon.
8/20: Lucifer Season 5
Netflix
Lucifer is one of Netflix’s most popular pick-ups. The cancelled Fox procedural—based on the Vertigo comic of the same name—is returning for a fifth season. Since the streamer acquired show, Lucifer is far more saucy and even more campy. The new chapter adds a very interesting twist. Basically it’s the perfect time to binge all four seasons of the show to prepare for the newest one.
8/27: Aggretsuko: Season 3
Netflix
We’re all feeling pretty angry in 2020, so it’s the perfect time for the angel of anger Aggretsuko to return to Netflix. If you’ve yet to fall in love with the red fox who hates her job, then know it’s only a matter of time. This animated show is a total blessing. It also happens to be incredibly relatable. The first two seasons are on Netflix now, so why not jump in?
8/28: Cobra Kai: Season 1 and Season 2
Sony/Netflix
With the new season of Cobra Kai being produced by Netflix, it’s the perfect time to catch up on this wonderful series. A sequel to the original Karate Kid trilogy (which are all currently streaming on Netflix) this is a brilliant binge. Cobra Kai centers on one time bully and Cobra Kai superstar Johnny Lawrence (Billy Zabka) as he ages disgracefully. But this is also a story of hope, legacy, family, and friendship and we can’t recommend it enough.
