YouTuber, artist, and nature lover Tanner Serpa has perfectly blended functional workspace and zen forest in his latest project, a DIY terrarium desk. The desk not only places a small box of rich nature inside of a table, but also lights the imagination on fire with possibilities. For example, who else is thinking they could desert-ify one of these terrarium-desks and make an ideal home for some sandkings? Anybody? Bueller… ?
Serpa recently posted the DIY terrarium desk to his YouTube channel, SerpaDesign, noting that it’s made completely from reclaimed and scrap materials. He adds that the desk was “an easy build,” but most people should probably take that assessment with a Jupiter-sized grain of salt. Not everyone builds volcano aquascapes and indoor mini ponds for fun, after all.
While the whole desk would certainly be a challenge for anybody who doesn’t keep a power sander handy, Serpa does point out that prospective builders can use an already existing desk as a base from which to start. But even that would require some precise woodcutting and the use of messy, liquid rubber. (Which may not be a problem for anybody who already has sandkings that can work as minions. Just sayin’.)
And even though Serpa’s terrarium desk is devoid of creatures belonging to the kingdom, animalia, it does still have plenty of lush greenery. Which may be a good thing in the long run, considering what kind of distractions desk-dwelling pets could pose. If you have an old desk you’re getting rid of anyway, however, why not try this DIY project? It’s always a good thing to see a bit of yourself in what you’ve created.
What do you think about SerpaDesign’s DIY terrarium desk? Are you ready to build one of these zen workstations for yourself, or would you prefer to not have the responsibility of watering your desk? Let us know in the comments!
