Watch the First All-New LOONEY TUNES Trailer

If you’ve been thinking to yourself, “I wonder just what Bugs Bunny and all his pals are doing these days,” we have an answer. And basically, they’ve been doing what they always did. HBO Max is launching an all new Looney Tunes Cartoons series with their streaming service. Dubbed a Max Original, Looney Tunes Cartoons brings back Bugs Bunny and his carrot, Marvin the Martian, Daffy Duck, and everyone else. And you can watch the first trailer for the animated series now:

That’s a lot of familiar characters and a lot of familiar gags. The characters drop impossibly large items on each other. Daffy Duck makes a joke about not wearing clothes. Yosemite Sam and Bugs Bunny are still rivals. It’s like we’re going back in time to the original Looney Tunes, which began airing in 1930. To be fair, that’s what the show synopsis states.

Looney Tunes Cartoons, an all-new series from Warner Bros. Animation starring the cherished Looney Tunes characters. Looney Tunes Cartoons echoes the high production value and process of the original Looney Tunes theatrical shorts with a cartoonist-driven approach to storytelling. Marquee Looney Tunes characters will be featured in their classic pairings in simple, gag-driven and visually vibrant stories. The new series will include 80 eleven-minute episodes, each comprised of animated shorts that vary in length and include adapted storylines for today’s audience.”

Tweety Bird in Looney Tunes

Warner Bros.

From this trailer, it doesn’t look like they make many concessions to modern life. Bugs does have a smart phone in one scene, and he references streaming channels in another. But I can’t say I thought I’d hear Tweety Bird utter, “I tawt I taw a puddy tat” ever again. To be honest, I would have been okay with that.

We’ll be curious to see who latches onto the new Looney Tunes Cartoons. Will it be adults tuning in for the sake of nostalgia? Will it be kids discovering Bugs Bunny for the first time? We’ll see when HBO Max launches on May 27.
