5/20/19 – Game of Thrones had a lot of things going for it as the fantasy series du jour, but you know what it didn’t have? Puppets. And puppets just make everything way better. If you’re like us and like a little puppetry in your epic fantasy stories, then the folks at Netflix and the Jim Henson company have got you covered. This year will see a new series based on the classic ’80s film The Dark Crystal, called Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. And we’ve now got a whole new batch of photos from the upcoming show thanks to Birth.Movies.Death. You can check them all out down below:
Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is actually a prequel series to the original cult classic 1982 Jim Henson film, and features an all-star voice cast. Among the notable names in the huge ensemble are Taron Egerton, Mark Hamill, Helena Bonham-Carter, Simon Pegg, Natalie Dormer, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and several others. Basically, you’ve got representation from the worlds of Star Wars, Harry Potter, Star Trek, Game of Thrones, Marvel and DC, making this the most stacked cast of geeky luminaries maybe ever. All that’s missing is someone representing Lord of the Rings, but hey, there’s always season two.
According to the official synopsis, Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance “returns to the world of Thra with an all-new adventure. When three Gelfling discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power, they set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world”. The first season will give us ten episodes, and will debut this summer. A trailer was released a few moths back which gave fans a first look into the updated world of Thra. Now how about a Labyrinth series next?
Netflix is set to drop Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance on August 30th.
