These String Covers of Horror Movie Themes Are Classically Creepy

The Los Angeles-based Vitamin String Quartet has become famous over the past two decades for their all-strings covers of music from all aspects of popular culture. The group has paid tribute to rock groups like the Rolling Stones, to scores from movies like Harry Potter and The Hunger Games, and, more recently, to the anime classics of Studio Ghibli. But VSQ’s next musical homage is a special treat for all the horror hounds out there.

Just in time for Halloween season, the Vitamin String Quartet is paying tribute to some of the greatest and most iconic themes ever from horror film classics, with all-string covers of several famous scores from the most beloved scary movies of all time. They’ve created a 15-track Spotify playlist that will be perfect for your Halloween party this year, or just to kick back and listen to late at night to get yourself in the spooky spirit. You can check out the full playlist above. This amazing playlist serves to remind us that often enough, the one thing that makes a horror movie a classic and sets it apart from the rest is its score. After all, what are Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, and Jason Vorhees without their famous themes? Or The Exorcist without its use of the song “Tubular Bells?” The horror movies that stand the test of time almost always have a instantly recognizable music that goes with them, and these new versions celebrate the best of the best.Which horror movie theme music is your favorite, or creeps you out the most?
