Archie Comics has been successfully mixing the wholesome world of Riverdale, U.S.A. with that of the supernatural ever since Afterlife with Archie became a sensation. That was followed by Vampironica, featuring Veronica Lodge as a vampire, and Jughead: The Hunger, which showcased the adventures of ol’ Jug as a werewolf. Now, the company is expanding its spooky Archie line with another round of all-new series, announced just in time for this year’s New York Comic Con. Coming in 2019 are Blossoms: 666 and Jughead: The Hunger Vs. Vampironica. You can check out early preview art for both series below. The first series out of the gate is set to hit in January of 2019, when the five-issue Blossoms: 666 hits comic book shops. Coming from the creative team of writer Cullen Bunn, along with artists Laura Braga and Matt Herms, this mini-series portrays Cheryl and Jason Blossom are a pair of seemingly normal kids in Riverdale. They’re wealthy, popular and likeable, but they also harbor a deep, dark secret: one of the Blossom Twins is the Anti-Christ. But neither one knows which of them is the Anti-Christ, and both want the title! In short, no one in Riverdale is safe.In a statement, Archie Comics Co-President Alex Segura said, “Cullen really blew us away with his Omen-esque version of the twins. It’s dark, psychological horror at its finest, perfectly rendered by the amazing Laura Braga, who did an amazing job on the recent Harley and Ivy Meet Betty and Veronica crossover with DC.”Cullen Bunn couldn’t be more enthusiastic for this new series, saying, “This story focuses on two of my favorite characters—the Blossom Twins—and puts them in a story of very, very dark horror/comedy. Cheryl and Jason have always been troublemakers…One part The Omen, one part Cruel Intentions, all Archie! I think fans of the comics, fans of Riverdale, and fans of demonic horror in general are going to love this!â€Blossoms 666 is just the beginning. Later in 2019, Archie Comics will unleash Jughead: The Hunger Vs. Vampironica. Writer Frank Tieri and artists Pat and Tim Kennedy present the ultimate face-off between the two terrifying and monstrous versions of Veronica and Jughead. According to writer Frank Tieri, this series will be an epic mash-up for the ages. “In the world of Jughead: The Hunger, vampires do not exist, having been wiped out by the werewolves,” Tieri said. “In the world of Vampironica, it’s the opposite…there are no werewolves, as vampires reign supreme. So what do you think will happen when these two worlds collide? All. HELL. Breaks. Loose. (Maybe quite literally!).”Jughead: The Hunger Vs. Vampironica doesn’t have a release date yet, but expect it in the first half of next year. Are you as intrigued as we are by these new supernatural additions to the Archie-verse?
