Gamora is the daughter of Thanos, but we haven’t seen much of their relationship play out in the Guardians of the Galaxy films.
Avengers: Infinity War showed fans how Gamora met Thanos in the MCU, but the movie originally explored more of their twisted family dynamic. USA Today has debuted a deleted scene from Infinity War‘s digital release which offers an intriguing glimpse of Gamora as Thanos’ loyal daughter.
Talk about family issues: Thanos has a heart-to-heart with Gamora (@zoesaldana) in this EXCLUSIVE deleted scene from ‘@Avengers: #InfinityWar.’ https://t.co/c2rtJEq66V pic.twitter.com/WrsRtjaHDZ

Note that the younger version of Gamora in this scene appears to be wearing armor inspired by Thanos’ design. However, we can’t necessarily trust this interpretation of events because Thanos is an unreliable narrator. He believes Gamora was happy under his command, and so he uses the Reality Stone to portray her that way. Gamora insists she was a prisoner and she clearly doesn’t appreciate this walk down memory lane.
It’s easy to see why the scene was ultimately shortened in the final film, and Thanos’ CGI is very unfinished here. The Russo brothers conveyed the same info about Gamora and the Soul Stone in a more efficient way. However, this deleted footage gives fans greater insight into both Thanos and Gamora. He actually seems to be believe he and his children were Gamora’s “family,” but that’s not the way she sees it.
Avengers: Infinity War‘s is available digitally now, and the Blu-ray and DVD will follow on August 14.
