New BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY Trailer Shows More of Freddie Mercury

The first trailer for the upcoming Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, with its fantastic medley of classic Queen hits, showed star Rami Malek was up to the oversized challenge of playing arguably the greatest front man in rock ‘n’ roll history. However, for a movie dedicated to telling the real story of a mythical performer, there were major parts of his life notably absent from the first look at the film, including his sexual orientation and his struggle with AIDS. If fans were worried Bohemian Rhapsody was going to ignore that one of the true titans of the music industry was gay though, the newest trailer for the film might put those worries to rest.

Like the first trailer, this latest look is also set to a collection of the band’s greatest hits, and shows how some of them were written and recorded, including the origins of their classic rock anthem “We Will Rock You.” But while the first trailer also prompted fears that the movie would straight-wash Freddie, this latest look does at least offer a quick hint of his sexual relationship with men, as well as his struggle with and death from AIDS in 1991.

Freddie Mercury was one-of-a-kind, one of the greatest musicians to ever step on stage, and he deserves to have his story told. Hopefully this trailer is a sign the movie will tell it right. Bohemian Rhapsody, also starring Lucy Boynton, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, Joseph Mazzello, Aidan Gillen, Tom Hollander, Allen Leech, and Mike Myers, comes to theaters on November 2.
