2018 is definitely the year of Marvel. With Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and this weekend’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, things have never looked better for the MCU.
On top of all that, this year also marks the 10-year anniversary of Marvel Studios. To help commemorate this event, Hot Toys has released two Toy Fair exclusive figures. The first is an amazing rendition of T’Chaka, the father of T’Challa, and former wielder of the mantle of Black Panther.
Looking at this suit up close is very interesting because it helps to get an idea of how Wakandan technology had evolved over the years from 1992 (when this suit was seen in action during the film) and today. Even though the suit does look battle-ready if needed, it appears more ceremonial than the suits T’Challa wears. This is a great representation on how Wakanda viewed its place in the world back then versus today. Why have a suit ready for war when you are living in an isolate paradise?
The T’Chaka figure comes with his costume, a mixture of cloth and plastic (we highly doubt it’s vibranium). He also comes with three sets of interchangeable hands and a Black Panther movie stand.
The other figure Hot Toys has released is a concept art version of Captain America, the inceptive entry of a 10th Anniversary “Marvel Stud10s” line. This is based on Ryan Meinerding’s art for Captain America: Civil War. This uniform symbolizes that he has not given up on the country (note the “A” on the helmet), but is no longer a part of the “system” (the Avengers logo instead of the flag motif).
Oh yeah, and this figure carries BOTH his shields around. We can all agree that Captain America is awesome (some would say even more so now that he has that beard), but wielding both shields really puts him over the top.
The Captain America figure comes with two head sculpts, four sets of hands, both shields, and a “Marvel Stud10s” stand. You can check out more pictures of these figures in the gallery down below. Pre-order information will be found on Sideshow Collectibles here.
So what do you think? Will you make your own Black Panther prequel with T’Chaka? What figures would you like to see from the “Marvel Stud10s” line? Let us know on Facebook or sound off in the comments below.
