One of the biggest questions in the history of animation is, “What does it look like under Mickey Mouse’s gloves?” If there’s an equivalent query in video games, it might be, “What’s the deal with Kirby’s feet?” Are those red things on the bottom of his body his bare feet, or are they a pair of shoes that he’s just always wearing? Back in March, illustrator Marie Blue dared to dream and decided that Kirby is in fact wearing shoes, which hide a pair of frankly unsettling human feet:

That image made the rounds, and now the concept of human-footed Kirby has come full circle, since modder Lucky Jero introduced a barefoot Kirby mod for Super Smash Brothers for Wii U that is as unnerving as you might expect (via Kotaku).
The character’s fighting style remains the same, since this is just a re-skin of the Kirby that’s already available in the game, so don’t expect barefoot Kirby to tear opponents’ limbs off using his toes or anything like that. The mod might have some minor flaws (sometimes it looks like the feet aren’t totally attached to the body), but in action, you don’t really notice that and it’s effective enough to make this super weird gag come alive.
If you’re the sort of person who knows how to make this happen, you can download the mod for yourself here. Super Smash Bros. is a game that’s been modded time and time again, so let us know in the comments what your favorite fan-made alterations to the game that you’ve come across are.
