Ever since the days of the original Star Wars, the creative minds over at Lucasfilm have employed the most amazing and talented concept art designers in the business, starting of course with the late, great Ralph McQuarrie. And judging from the art coming out of the new series of Star Wars films, the torch is being wielded with pride. Following in the footsteps of McQuarrie and other artists like Joe Johnston is a whole new generation of talented illustrators, who are dutifully filling the shoes of their predecessors.
Most of their work can be found in the hardcover Art of The Last Jedi book, but some was just too spoilery to include when the book first hit back in December. (The death of Han Solo at the hands of his son Kylo Ren was similarly left out of The Art of The Force Awakens book two years back.) But now that the movie has been out for a while, we have some very spoilery concept art for Rian Johnson’s film, thanks to io9.
As you can see from these gorgeous images, most of the concept art from illustrators like Kev Jenkins, Seth Engstrom, Adam Brockbank, and James Clyne made it almost 100% intact from page to screen. Among these paintings you can see iconic moments from the film like the reappearance of Yoda, Luke facing down the forces of the First Order on Crait, Admiral Holdo’s heroic sacrifice, and more. You can see the all seven preview images from the book right here:
What do you think of these amazing illustrations? These artists sure have their work cut out for them for Episode IX, don’t they? Let us know your thoughts down below in the comments.
